In the article »A Story We Are Part of«, Jon Helt Haarder pays attention to the still more widespread cross-media phenomenon of self-representation with an increased awareness of the aesthetic and theatrical possibilities in biographical reference. Haarder suggests that the phenomenon should considered a new ‘-ism’ and labels it ‘performativebiographism’ with reference

to J.L. Austin’s term for »doing things with words«. Using Bret Easton Ellis’ Lunar Park (2005) as an example, Haarder introduces the key characteristics of this performative biographism, before applying the concept in a reading of the Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knausgård’s enormous autobiographical novel Min kamp 1-6 (2009 ff., My Struggle).
